Transition Between Classes

We are committed to ensuring that transition between classes is smooth, supportive and positive for all of our children.

During the summer term, children spend time with their new teacher so they can begin to build relationships and feel confident about the year ahead. Teachers meet to carefully hand over key information to ensure every child’s needs, strengths and next steps are fully understood.

All children receive a transition leaflet to take home, which includes helpful information and photographs of relevant staff. This acts as a reassuring reminder over the summer holidays.

For some children, a more bespoke transition plan may be required. In these cases, we work closely with families to provide additional visits, support or tailored arrangements to ensure a successful start.

Our consistent routines across the school also play an important role in supporting transition, helping children to feel secure, confident and ready to learn as they move into their new class.

Applying to secondary schools

You should apply for your child to start secondary school when they are in year 6.

It is recommended to check if your child is eligible for free or post-16 school transport before you apply, as this might determine which schools you choose to apply for.

Applications are accepted until 12 noon on 12 December 2025. After that deadline any new applications or changes of applications can be processed. If an application is received after this time, it will be processed after national offer day. Other local authorities may not operate an extended deadline. If you are applying to schools outside Lincolnshire, that local authority decides whether to accept a late application.

Grammar school tests take place in September. The results are posted before 31 October.

When you apply:

you can select up to three schools, which you should put in order of your preference
it is recommended to check if your child is eligible for free or post-16 school transport before you apply, as this might determine which schools you choose to apply for
you must use the address where your child is currently living, and not a future address or relative’s address. If you move address after you have made your application you must let us know. If you don’t currently live in Lincolnshire, you must apply through your home local authority
you can amend your application at any time before the final closing date. If you miss the first closing date, you will have to wait until admission reopens again. Please note this might not apply if you apply to a school outside of Lincolnshire. If this is the case, please check with the relevant authority for the school
if your child needs a school place in a different year group or wants to move schools at another point during the year, you will need to apply to move schools
