Admissions

Starting at Kirton Primary School

We would like to extend a warm welcome to prospective families looking for a Reception Class place in September 2026.

We know how important it is to parents when choosing a school for their children and are keen to invite you to visit our school.  At Kirton Primary School we do not hold specific open days as feel it is important that prospective parents see our school on a usual school day.

Admissions at this time are for parents of nursery age children (who were born between 1 September 2021 and 31 August 2022) if you have a child who falls into the age range above they are due to start school in September 2026 and you must apply for a primary school place for them to start in Reception.

If you would like to book a visit to our school to meet Miss Wells, Assistant Headteacher and tour the building, please contact the school office on 01205 722236 to arrange an appointment.

We look forward to meeting you.

If you are unable to book a visit, please enjoy our virtual tour of the school where you can view a Reception classroom and the provision in our outdoor area. Please note that the tour was originally published in 2021, so some details may have changed slightly since then.

Admission Arrangements

Admissions to Nursery are administered by the school directly, and follow the same criteria that the local authority use for school admissions. If your child receives a place in our Nursery, this is not a guarantee of a place in Reception.

If you wish your child to attend Reception at Kirton Primary School, you will need to apply for a place and follow the full admissions procedures as detailed at www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/school-admissions

Nursery to Reception Transition

We are committed to ensuring a smooth and positive transition from Nursery to Reception, whatever setting your child may be joining us from.

For children attending other early years settings, we work closely with local nurseries and pre-schools. Our staff visit children in their familiar environment, introducing a friendly face from school — this may be our EYFS Lead or a Reception teacher — to help build early connections and confidence. Where appropriate, and in discussion with staff and parents, we consider placing children from the same setting together.

For children moving up from our own Nursery, we carefully consider key friendships when allocating Reception classes to support confidence and wellbeing.

Children are invited to attend short “Stay and Play” sessions (without parents) to spend time in their new classroom, explore the environment and begin to feel comfortable in their new surroundings.

We also offer parent and child workshops focused on school readiness, helping both children and parents prepare for the first few weeks of starting school. Tours of the school are always welcomed and can be arranged for parents and children.

If needed, bespoke transition plans can be discussed to ensure every child feels secure and supported.

In addition, we hold a Parent Information Evening where you will receive key information and any forms that need to be completed before your child starts school. This is also an opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher and visit the classroom.

This is always a very special time of year for us — we look forward to welcoming new families and beginning the journey together.

School Readiness

Starting school is an exciting milestone for both children and their families. Our School Readiness information is designed to support parents and carers in preparing their child for a confident and successful start.

School readiness is about much more than knowing letters and numbers — it includes developing independence, communication skills, social confidence and positive routines. By working together, we can help ensure every child feels happy, secure and ready to learn from their very first day.
