SNACKS

Children in Nursery are entitled to receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day as part of the Government’s School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme.

This provides one of their 5 A DAY portions. It also helps to increase awareness of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables and encourages healthy eating habits that can be carried into later life.

One item of fruit or vegetable is provided each day at morning break time.

  • bananas

  • apples

  • pears

  • carrots

  • tomatoes

  • easy-peel citrus fruits, such as satsumas

  • dried fruit – sultanas and raisins.

LUNCH

Children may bring a packed lunch which is eaten at 11.45 am.  Drinks must be brought in unbreakable containers.  No glass bottles, no fizzy drinks, or ring pull containers and nothing hot either please!

Kirton is a nut-free school. Please do not send your child with any food containing nuts, such as peanut butter or chocolate-hazelnut spread.

HOT DINNERS

Hot dinners are available to order in advance. We work closely with a local supplier to provide a healthy cooked lunch. A sample from the menu is shown below:

  • Chinese pork, pasta & mini vegetables.  Bananas & custard.
  • Roast Turkey with stuffing, roast potatoes & vegetables.  Ice Cream with wafer.
  • Chipolatas with mashed potatoes & vegetables.  Iced Frosted Lemon square.
  • Fish cake with tomato sauce, spaghetti & chips.  Jelly.
  • Ye Ha Cowboy Chicken with rice & peas.  Chocolate orange slice.
